Does how high you tee up a ball affect how you hit the shot?
You bet it does. For example, if you wanted to hit a high soft landing shot it would make it a lot easier to achieve this flight by simply teeing up the ball higher than normal. On the other hand if you want a shot with more spin, then it makes sense to tee the ball up lower than normal so you have to hit more down on the ball. Hitting down on the ball increases the spin on the ball and the lower tee helps in this area.
Also, the way you tee up a ball dictates to some small degree the shape of shot you hit. If you want to encourage a draw then tee up the ball higher than normal and if you want to encourage a fade then tee the ball lower. A higher teed ball helps to make your swing more rounded which helps to produce a draw, where as a lower tee helps to promote a more descending blow which naturally produces a slightly more cutting action on the ball.
In short, experiment with different heights of the tee and see the result, but do this with the knowledge I’ve just given you and then you’ll know why the results you’re getting are happening. And remember this, if you slice the ball then tee the ball higher as this will help to get a draw.
