Why doesn't a golf ball fly as far through the air in cold weather?

The reason a ball does not fly as far in cold conditions is because the lower temperature toughens the elasticity of the ball.  A way of increasing distance and feel is to change the compression of golf ball you use.  For example, if you use a 100 compression golf ball normally then on cold days try a 90 compression golf ball, and if you normally use a 90 compression golf ball use an 80 compression ball.

You'll find that by doing this the ball will fly almost the same distance in the cold as your normal ball would in warmer weather.  Another good thing you can do to improve distance in the cold is to alternate golf balls and the one you're not using, keep it in your pocket to keep it warm.  This really does make a big impact on how far you hit a ball in the cold conditions.  So take any advantage you can get.
